Course Curriculum
Course Description:
Welcome to art class at Homeschool Haven 2011! This year, we will be focusing on many different projects involving drawing, painting and sculpture. We will learn the basics first, and progress into more advanced techniques as the year progresses. This site will be dedicated to the success of the students at Homeschool Haven, and will include resources including how-to videos that the kids can use in their practice.

Demo Videos
The demo videos for Homeschool Haven are to give the kids another chance to practice what they are learning in art class. While being in class with an instructor is helpful for a learning child, it is even more important for them to practice on their own, as this is where the true learning takes place. The videos are short demonstrations of particular techniques that the kids can use to practice what we have learned in class. The videos are divided up into the lesson we are covering in class.

Unit One: Graphite Drawing
Purpose: Give the students experience with basic line drawing, as well as more advanced shading techniques that show three-dimensional effects.

Unit Two: Charcoal Drawing
Purpose: Have the kids move on from controlled media to media that is a little harder to control. Show the kids how to use charcoal and how to use it to create a sense of space.

Unit Three: Pastel Drawing
Purpose: Study of mixing colors using pastel and nicer materials. Show the kids how to create light and dark and also how to mix realistic colors

Unit 4: Painting
Purpose: Study of painting techniques including direct and indirect painting methods, mixing paint with water, color mixing, sponging, etc.

Unit 5: Sculpture
Purpose: Study of sculpture and observing in 3D. Also work with clay and how it is molded, and working with fired clay.
